Letters to the Editor, June 17, 2008

Dear Editor,

I recently had the opportunity to attend three special events in Ada that are valuable resources for diabetics in the Ada area. I attended the FREE Diabetic Education Program at Valley View Hospital, with Connie Christy serving as the supervisor.

The intense program covered, in simple language, everything from managing the diet to health care.

I, also, attended a grant-sponsored workshop on Cooking for the Diabetic at the OSU Extension Center with Jana Kelley as the supervisor.

This cost me five whole dollars! Again, the information was presented in a professional, relaxed setting. And finally, I attended the FREE diabetic open wound clinic at Valley View’s Wound Healing Center, which provided professional, supportive information. I cannot begin to express my appreciation to these various groups for their special attention and concern to me as a diabetic.

I understand, too, that Bobby Saunkeah assists with an invaluable diabetic program at Carl Albert Hospital. And I have heard that there are local support groups that meet regularly.

I strongly urge all diabetics, whether newly diagnosed or “old-timers” to take advantage of these opportunities in our community. We are very, very fortunate to have them locally because so many communities do not.

Lloyd Drush, Ada

Dear Editor,

In Tuesday’s May 13 paper, front page, V.V. Hospital goes tobacco free.

Years ago, George Braly, Ada lawyer, defended a young man’s death caused by tobacco.

He lost.

George Braly was also my lawyer and talking to him about this, he said when he locked horns with the HUGE tobacco Co. he did not expect to win, but was more than pleased with what he accomplished. It brought to light what tobacco and the tobacco Co. was guilty of.

What George Braly accomplished is still on-going.

I think it is time for Ada and the U.S.A. to salute George Braly.

Geraldine Daniels, Ada
