Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I am a resident of Roff, Okla., and I am appalled at how someone can move into town and start making false claims about upstanding residents here.

It has been brought to my attention that this newcomer has said the park committee took money donations for the Fourth of July event and they did not. In fact, all donations were of items — no money — we did not ask for money.

First of all, the Roff Park Committee worked very hard to make the July 4th celebration a special event for our residents. Also, the park committee worked hard on the Back to School Bash. Casey McCaskill and several others got enough donations and/or supplies to supply every child in the Roff School with their school supplies.

I don’t understand how people such as Casey can go out of their way to help other people and still be ridiculed by others. Casey has done a lot for the town of Roff since she has been leading the park committee and all of us in Roff appreciate her and everything she has done for our community and children.

This same person is also trying to open all closed alleys in Roff.

Why?

The town does not have the money to fix the existing streets now. My alley has been closed almost 100 years, why should it be opened now?

Seems to me this woman is trying to make everyone’s lives difficult and we should be worried about more important things than the alleys.

If she does manage to open these old, dead alleys, it will affect a lot of the residents here.

Some people have lived in their homes for many years and have built items such as sheds, barns, etc., on the old alleys.

Even the school may have a problem because the bleachers at the baseball field are sitting in an old alley.

Why cause all these problems? I say leave the alleys the way they are and fix our roads we have now.

Denise Gordon, Roff
