Beta Sigma Phi

The Xi Delta Gamma chapter of Beta Sigma Phi kicked off the 07-08 year with a Beginning Day Pizza and Rush Party on September 10, 2007. The event was hosted by Sherry Barnes in her home with Cindy Keefer serving as co-hostess. Members and guest were entertained with a lively game of Bunko.

On October 1, 2007 Belinda Runnells hosted the members in her home with Debby Wallace co-hosting. Lani Vasconcellos was program chair. Claude Bess presented an informative talk on Water Rights.

Members attending the events were Pamla Armstrong, Sherry Barnes, Cindy Beasley, Sharon Beasley, Vickie Bess, Sandra Dixon, Brenda Hall, Shelley Hamby, Cindy Keefer, Carol Naberhaus, Robin Nelson, Belinda Runnells, Holly Sewell, Judy Short, Mary Story, Lani Vasconcellos, and Debby Wallace.

On October 27, 2007 Carol and Bill Naberhaus hosted a couples Cookout and Bonfire at their home in Stratford. The beautiful night was enjoyed by several members of the chapter and their spouses.

The November meeting of the Xi Delta Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi was held in the home of Robin Nelson on November 5, 2007. Cindy Beasley served as co-hostess for the event. Member Carol Naberhaus presented the program on Mental Relaxation. Following the program, members enjoyed a Christmas Ornament exchange. Members attending were Sherry Barnes, Cindy Beasley, Sharon Beasley, Vickie Bess, Shelley Hamby, Cindy Keefer, Carol Naberhaus, Robin Nelson, Belinda Runnells, Holly Sewell, Judy Short, Lani Vasconcellos, Debby Wallace, and Pamla Armstrong.

On November 15, 2007 several members and their guests attended the East Central University production of “Oklahoma” . Also during the month of November members are working on fund raising and various forms of community service. A Christmas party and gift exchange is planned for December.

Pontotoc County OHCE

Pontotoc County OHCE County Council met Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. in the Agriplex building.

President Oma Waters called the meeting to order. Emmeln Allen led the pledge to the flag. Jessie WElch led the group in reading the OHCE Creed. Dorothy Baily gave the devotional.

Mary Hightower read the minutes of the last meeting and called the roll. Emmelin Allen gave the treasurers report. Allen reported on the Kountry Kitchen Jean Beth Martin reported on this year’s quilt show. It was a real success. She had suggestions for our next one. Kathryn Floyd led the style show. Jana Kelly announced a change in prepaying for the yearbooks.

Floyd had two suggestions for our spring trip. A discussion will be made at our next meeting. Ellen Meek was elected as president elect. Jana Kelly asked for an update on local officers and phone numbers.

Officers for next year are as follows: president-Oma Waters, president elect-Ellen Meek, vice-president-Jessie WElch, Secretary- Mary Hightower, treasurer-Emmelin Allen, reporter-Bernice Patrick, devotional leader-Dorothy Bailey, song leader-Patsy Coffey.

Oklahoma HCE cemetery books, CDs and DVDs are now ready to purchase. Check with Jana Kelly as to how to order. jennifer Greenstreet gave our program. The meeting was followed by a pot luck luncheon. Vanoss members were our hostesses.

Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary

The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary and the Salvation Army Adviisory Board held their November meeting on Friday the ninth.

President Marth Freeman called the meeting ot order. Capt. Lucas voiced a prayer before the meal.

Roberta Summers gave the devotion reminding us we should thank the Lord everyday, not just at Thanksgiving. She shared Psalms 101:1-5.

Minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved as presented.

The Silver Tea was discussed in detail. Those attending the November meeting were Lou Ann Hoover, Arlene Nevland, Peggy Clark, Doris Blackburn, Cindy Davis, Dorene McAlister, Catharine Choate, DaMarr Evans, Joyce Gentry, Jane Muntz, Leigh Gaddis, Donna York, Wanda Murphy, Sandra Stafford, Lori Crowson, Roberta Summers, Glenda DeShazo, Martha Freeman, Julie Taylor and Shirley Nordean.

Pontotoc County Retired Educators

Pontotoc County Retired Educators Association held its monthly meeting December 14 at Ada Elks Lodge. The meeting was called to order by Mary Scalf, vice president, who reminded everyone of the volunteer hours forms which were on each table and which are to be updated at each meeting. Copies of the November minutes, prepared by Judy Hisaw are available for each member to peruse before acceptance or correction. They were accepted. Tom Stephens discussed the treasury report which had also been placed on the tables for all members to scrutinize.

Edna Mae Cooley displayed a Christmas decoration that East Central University is selling to start preparing for their 2009 centennial.

Dr. Sue Jaquess requested that members go to watch her square dance club, Herford Twirlers, perform at the New Years Eve celebration at the college. They will dance at 6 p.m. in the old ballroom.

Dr. Norman frame announced that Dr. Ray Quiett had had knee replacement surgery but was doing well.

Judy Hisaw gave the invocation before the luncheon and loy Kidwell and Debra Nolan entertained with Christmas hymns and cards.

Mary Scalf and Hisaw had decorated the tables in a festive holiday theme. The head tables had live poinsetta plants of which two were given as a token of appreciation to the entertainers. martha Martin won the third plant in a drawing of names.

Prime Timers met Dec. 18 at J.D.’s Cafeteria for the monthly buffet dinner and meeting with President neal Beasley presiding. Rev. Roberto Escamilia gave the invocation.

The group sang “Happy Birthday” to Neal and Patsy Beasley. Members also acknowledged the anniversary of L.T. and Betty Williams.

Mayme Farham, program chairman for the month of January announced that the manager of the Baptist Village would give the Jan. 15 program. The members were treated to a medley of Christmas music provided by B.J. Shi, Louann Korzan and Neal Beasley. The meeting was adjourned.

There were 34 members and six guests in attendance.

Preceptor Phi

Friday, Dec. 7, the Preceptor Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the Elks Lodge for their annual Christmas party along with the following members in attendance: Sheila Harris, June Cope, Wylie and Carol Winton, Juanita Sutton, Paul and Lucille Collins, Dan and Juanita True, Larry and Bobbi Darbinson, Dean and Marlene Green, Annette Rhodes, Jean Erickson, Betty Rennike and Nina Davis.

A jovial mood prevailed throughout the evening with members visiting and enjoying the fellowship and good food. Special guests were Arch and Edna Hill.

Juania Sutton hosted the November meeting with the following members in attendance: Lucille Collins, Marlene Green, Betty Renke, Carol winton, Juanita Sutton, Jean Erickson, Sheila Harris, Bobbye Darbinson and June Cope.

Vice President Carol Winton conducted the meeting in the absence of President Juanita True.

Treasurer report by Sheila Harris showed a balance of $1,237.59. Discussion was held concerning Ataxia Relanglectosia and the amount to donate. The decision was made to table the issue for further consideration. Culture Chairperson jean Erickson reported tha she had nothing to report.

Bobbye Darbinson reported that she had been invited to the 30th reunion of Beta Sigma Phi in Allen. She reported that it was very nice and she really enjoyed the occasion. Bobbye also reported that she owuld host the Dec. 4 meeting and that the food would be served at 11:30.

Lucille Collins informed the group that Terri Ford had been called back for a semester of teaching. She will re-enter the chapter in January.

The suggestion was made tha tEdna and Arch Hill be invited to the December meeting. All members agreed.

Secret sister gifts were given to Bette Rennke and Bobbye Darbinson adn Lucille Collins. Program was presented by Health Back Home Health who also served the meal.
