Man dies in crash

Randy Mitchell Staff Writer

DURANT Friday, a Durant man was killed in a Bryan County accident one mile north of Durant just before 9 p.m. OHP Trooper Scott King said William C. Hudson, 81, Durant, was driving a 2006 Honda west on a county road when he failed to yield at a stop sign.

Hudson’s vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a 2003 Chevrolet pickup driving north on State Highway 48. Hudson was pinned for 20 minutes and died at the scene from head, internal and leg injuries.

The driver of the pickup, Brandi Tomasini, 23, Tishomingo, was not injured. Two passengers in Tomasini’s vehicle, Brandan L. Russell, 21, Wapanucka, and Chance K. Smith, 22, McAlester, were also not injured.

King said Hudson was not wearing a seat belt and listed the cause of the accident as failure to yield.

In a separate accident, a Mill Creek woman and two Sulphur teens were injured in a two-vehicle accident one mile north of Mannsville at 7 p.m. Friday.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Joe Jefferson said Lesa Smith, 38, Sulphur was driving a 1993 Chevrolet west on U.S. 177 when she stopped to make a left turn. She was hit from behind by a 2002 Nissan driven by Shadow Rider, 19, Tishomingo.

Both Smith and Rider were not injured. Three passengers in Smith’s vehicle did suffer various injuries. All three were taken by Johnston County EMS to Mercy Memorial Hospital in Ardmore.

Creda Bittle, 47, Mill Creek, was admitted with head and internal injuries.

Jessica Wyche, 19, Sulphur, was admitted with unlisted injuries. Richard Jones, 19, Sulphur was admitted with internal injuries.

Jefferson did not list conditions but did say all were stable. Rider did not see the car had stopped and the cause of the accident was listed as driver inattention, according to Jefferson. Seat belts were in use by all.
