Stout not seeking another council term

ADA — Frank Stout, Ada’s current mayor and representative of City Council’s Ward 2, has not filed for reelection for the Ward 2 seat. Stout’s decision leaves the race to fill the open position to Charlie Vest and Betty Taylor.

Ward 4, which is also up for election, is a two-person contest. Incumbent Barbara Young will seek to keep her seat on council against challenger John Hudson.

A call for declarations of candidacy went into effect at 8 a.m. February 4, and lasted until 5 p.m. February 6. Signs supporting candidates began sprouting up in lawns of residents in both Wards over the weekend.

Ward 2 encompasses the northeast section of town, bordered to the west by Mississippi Ave. and to the south by 9th St., shifting down slightly after passing East Central University and then back up, following Woodland Dr. east until city limits.

Ward 4 covers the northwest part of town, with 13th St. serving as its northern border and Mississippi Ave. as the eastern edge.

While candidates must reside in the ward in which they run, the election will be open to all Ada residents. The offices will be filled in the Non Partisan City of Ada Municipal Primary Election, scheduled for March 4. The General Election will be held April 1.

Council members not up for reelection are Ward 1’s Dick Scalf, Ward 2’s Darrell Nemecek, and At Large member and current vice mayor Roger Cupps.
