Alcohol involved in injury accident

Wanette — Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Tyson Wright said drunk driving was the cause of a two-vehicle accident Friday.

The accident occurred when a Chevrolet pickup, traveling east, driven by Jimmy Long, 54, Asher, attempted to make a left turn off of State Highway 39 at 6 p.m. Friday. Long’s pickup was hit in the side by a 2000 Buick driven by Leighton Goble, 73, Shawnee, who was driving west on SH 39.

A passenger in Jimmy Long’s vehicle, Tenia Long, 54, Asher, was pinned for 20 minutes before being freed by firefighters from Wanette and Asher using hydraulic cutting tools.

Goble and a passenger in his vehicle Bernice Dewitt, 64, Tecumseh, were also pinned for 20 minutes before being freed.

Jimmy Long refused treatment at the scene. Tenia Long was taken by ambulance to Purcell Hospital and admitted in fair condition with head and trunk internal injuries.

Goble was taken by Wadley’s Ambulance to Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City and admitted in fair condition with head and leg injuries. Dewitt was taken by Air-Evac helicopter to OU Medical Center and admitted in fair condition with arm and leg injuries.

In a report, Wright said seat belts were used by all and listed the cause of the accident as alcohol, driver impaired, but did not specify who was drinking.
