Big Five taking apps

— Big Five Head Start will begin taking appointments for applications starting Monday, May 4th for the 2009/2010 school year for all head start centers in the Pontotoc County area.
Head Start is a comprehensive child care program that provides quality activities that help children develop their math, science, and reading skills. The overall goal of Head Start is to teach developmental activities that encourage self-confidence and independence and promote social competence. The Big Five Head Start serves an estimated 180 children located in and around the Ada area.
Eligibility is determined by the child’s age and family income based on the 2009 Family Income Guidelines. Children must be three or four years old by September 1, 2009 to qualify. Ten percent of enrollment must be made available to children with disabilities. Applications are prioritized by computer using the enrollment priority list. Parents should bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization record, proof of family income, Social Security cards for all household members, and Sooner Care or insurance card.
Three-year old classes are available at the Ada Head Start Center, Monte Vista Academy, and Latta Kids Zone. Applications will be taken by appointment at the Ada Head Start office at 1721 Cradduck Road. Contact Cindy Rainwater at 332-8233 to schedule an appointment.
Roff Head Start is located at 21880 CR 3499 in Fitzhugh and offers a three-year old and a four-year old program. Applications will be taken by appointment. Contact Stephanie Wilson at 332-8976 to schedule an appointment.
Applications will be taken at McLish School at 26050 CR 3590 on May 22nd and 21st for the three-year old and four-year old programs for children in the surrounding areas of Stonewall and Fittstown.
