DAVIS — An Americana Unplugged concert to help raise money for the Davis OK Animal Volunteers will be held Thursday, May 7 at 7 p.m. at the La Ville Inn on Main Street in Davis featuring “Deliverance” actor and musician Ronny Cox.
Cox began his entertainment career as a musician but since his debut in John Boorman’s film “Deliverance,” including playing guitar in the famous “dueling banjos” scene, Cox has appeared in over 50 films including “Beverly Hills Cop (I and II),” “Bound for Glory,” “RoboCop,” “Total Recall,” and many others. He has starred in numerous TV movies and in the TV series “Desperate Housewives,” “Apple’s Way,” “St. Elsewhere,” “The Agency,” and of course as Senator Kinsey in “Stargate SG1.”
In the past few years Cox has concentrated on his music, including being named a finalist in the South Florida Singer/Songwriter competition, headlining such venues as the prestigious Old Town School of Folk in Chicago and he is a regular crowd favorite on one of his favorites stops, the annual Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, Texas.
The Davis OK Animal Volunteers provides Murray County residents with low cost spay and neutering clinics for their dogs and cats in an effort to end the suffering of innocent dogs and cats by reducing the number of unwanted animal births and strays.
“We have seen a great increase in demand for our services during this economic downturn,” said founder Audrey Riddlehoover.
As 100 percent of the ticket sales goes to the artist, for every person who attends, local businesses have currently pledged a matching $15.30 toward the specified benefit recipient.
“Americana Unplugged’s generous sponsors have provided over $17,000 in pledges and contributions for local causes which serve Murray County since the first Americana Unplugged concert in 2006,” said founder and sponsor Larry Lyon. “I strongly suggest buying tickets in advance because not only will you save money, but I expect Ronny’s show to be a full house.”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the performance is at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 in advance and $15 the day of the show.
Advance tickets are available online at www.americanaunplugged.com, and in downtown Davis at LaVille Inn and Jone’s Custom Jewelry.
