Officials are warning Ada residents to be on the lookout for Mitchell Shults, 33. He is a white male and escaped from Pontotoc County Jail Wednesday evening.
On May 1, Shults along with fellow inmate Zachary Murfin, 25, allegedly set a mattress on fire inside the jail during a disturbance. Surveillance footage showed Shults and Murfin setting the fire, Pontotoc County Deputy Lieutenant Dan Randolph said.
Undersheriff Joe Glover told an Ada Evening News reporter earlier that Shults has an extensive criminal record and was awaiting trial on pending criminal charges. Glover anticipated Shults and Murfin would be charged with first-degree arson. If anyone is aware of Shults location, they are urged to contact authorities.
More information will be available in Thursday’s edition of the AEN.
