Ada board gives updates on bond issue

Judd Morse Staff Writer

Ada Ada superintendent Pat Harrison gave the Ada board of education an update on the progress of the school’s recently passed bond project during a school board meeting Monday evening.

“We hope to get the new heat and air units in the elementary gymnasium cafeterias over the summer, and get those ready to go by the time school starts next year,” Harrison said.

“We’re also starting to make some visits to some early childhood centers around here to see which one we like and look at plans to see what floor plans we like.” Harrison indicated that he planned to make a trip later in the week to scout out possible. “We’re going out there with an open mind,” he said.

“We’re also taking bids on new security systems for the junior high,” he said. “We’ve looked at a couple of systems and we’ve still got another one, they’re actually coming in to make a presentation, so we’ll see which ones we want to go with there.”

The board voted to authorize the shredding of “all claims, warrants, contracts, purchase orders and any other financial records or documents, including those relating to school activity funds, on file or stored in the offices of the board of education for a period of longer than five years.” According to Harrison, this is something the school board tries to do on a yearly basis.

A vote to approve or not to approve an abbreviated standard for of agreement between Ada city schools and Childer-Childers, Architects & Associates, was tabled at the recommendation of both Harrision and the school board’s attorney Ken Johnson. Johnson explained to the board that the current document included provisions not in the school’s best interest. The item was tabled to allow Johnson time to come to a more suitable agreement with the company.
