Valley View goes tobacco free

Judd Morse Staff Writer

Ada Dozens of blue and white balloons were released at Valley View Regional Hospital Monday in celebration of the hospital’s commitment to a tobacco-free campus.

Cigarettes and other tobacco products are now prohibited on hospital grounds.

“We have an obligation to create a healthy environment,” said Valley View CEO Ron Webb. Webb said the decision to become a tobacco-free campus is gaining popularity among health-care facilities both in Oklahoma and throughout the nation.

Webb said that the Chickasaw Nation’s Carl Albert Indian Health Facility will also follow suit and become a tobacco free campus next May.

The decision to become tobacco-free is a continuation of steps the hospital has taken to create a more healthy environment.

“It wasn’t that long ago when you could still buy tobacco in the gift shops,” said Webb.

Balloons were distributed to dozens of the hospital staff. After a few words from Webb, the balloons were released and quickly floated off into the distance.

Members of the hospital staff were also entered into raffles and those in attendance for the event were also entered into a seperate drawing. Sodas and snacks were also served.
