Chickasaw Nation hosts open house

Ada The Chickasaw Nation Division of Housing and Tribal Development was highlighted during an open house for the new tribal housing building Monday, May 19.

The 28,081 square-foot facility houses 54 employees and is located at 111 Rosedale, in Ada.

Services such as rental assistance, homeowner education and counseling, storm shelters and loan programs are accessible in this new facility.

‘Providing access to high quality housing is a high priority,” Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby said. “The Housing program has opened a lot of doors for Chickasaw people and other Native Americans. This facility provides more convenience for our clients and enables our housing personnel to be even more efficient and effective.”

The new building features drive-through convenience for the hundreds of people who utilize the programs offered by the housing division.

Housing and Tribal Development Administrator Wayne Scribner said the division fills a basic need.

“Gov. Anoatubby said, ‘We need to always remember the Chickasaw people are our first priority,’” Scribner said. “We keep that in mind in everything we do here.”

Since the housing division was established, 2,600 homes had been constructed for Chickasaw citizens. To date, the Housing division has provided 675 home loans to Chickasaw citizens, Scribner said.

Chuka Chukmasi, which is Chickasaw for "beautiful home," is one avenue the Tribe utilizes to provide for the housing needs of clients.

Chuka Chukmasi enables Chickasaw citizens and employees to purchase or refinance a home through an affordable home loan. The program is not restricted by income level or location of residency.

More than 790 Chickasaw families are currently being assisted in Chickasaw Nation rental programs.

Counseling programs are also offered at the new location.
