Ada firefighters battle two structure fires

Randy Mitchell Staff Writer

Ada Ada firefighters battled two house fires at the same time Thursday morning.

Two calls went out. One in the 200 block of N. Stockton, and the other at the intersection of First and Bluff. The house on Bluff was nearly engulfed when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters attacked the house from all sides while avoiding a downed power line which was arcing on the south side of the structure.

The fire was hot enough to burn thick, knee-deep green grass surrounding the dwelling.

Huge flames were jutting out from all windows, doors and the roof of the structure.

Firefighters used a “deck gun” to saturate the inside of the house through the massive hole in the roof.

A deck gun is a kind of water cannon mounted to the top of Ada Engine 10. It puts out an astounding 1,000 gallons of water per minute.

Assistant Fire Chief Rick Ross said the all-wood house appeared to be vacant.

Captain Pat Savage said one of the many dangers when fighting a structure fire such as this one is scalding hot steam created when the water douses the flames.

A lineman from OG&E arrived and quickly removed the downed power line.

Information on the Stockton fire was unavailable at press time. No firefighters were injured.
