Two Holdenville youngsters were severely injured while driving an ATV near Wewoka Wednesday.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Brad Stuteville said 17-year-old Zachary Ellis, Holdenville, was driving a 1992 Yamaha four-wheeler four miles south and one half mile west of Wewoka when the wreck occurred at 1:42 p.m.
According to Stuteville, Ellis was going east on a county road when he ran a stop sign at an intersection. While making a left turn, he reportedly pulled into the path of a 2005 Ford driven by Chad Mason, 22, Sayre.
The Ford slammed into the ATV and the force of the impact threw Ellis 82 feet from the collision. He was taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City and admitted in critical condition with head, arm, leg, internal and external injuries.
A passenger on the ATV, 11-year-old Colton Morris, Holdenville, was thrown 76 feet from the impact. He was also taken to OUMC and admitted in critical condition with head, leg and internal injuries.
Mason was not injured. Stuteville said neither ATV rider was wearing a helmet.
