Ten SSC students inducted into psychology honor society

SEMINOLE — Ten Seminole State College students were inducted into the Psi Beta National Psychology Honor Society recently.

Students inducted included Sharon Denton of Konawa, Amber Echols of Prague, Annette Gibbs of Seminole, Michelle Johnson of Shawnee, Dustin Kerley of Seminole, Anna Miklaucic of Shawnee, Sarah Rooney of Shawnee, Trina Rose of Tecumseh, Gina Smith of Meeker, and Justin Sylsberry of Wewoka.

Guest speaker for the event was Diana Lynd. Lynd is the Childhood Development Coordinator as well as a co-sponsor of Psi Beta.

To become members of the honor society, the students must have had an overall GPA of 3.0 and at least a “B” average in psychology.

They must also have completed at least 12 semester hours including one semester of a psychology or a psychology-based course.

SSC Sponsors for the organization are Carol Parker, Scholars for Excellence Coordinator; Diana Lynd, Child Development Coordinator; and Kendall Rogers, Psychology Instructor.

The organization provides opportunities to present research papers at regional meetings, attend national meetings and compete for national awards. Psi Beta chapters also sponsor programs, activities and participation in community service projects.

Psi Beta is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association and the American Psychological Society.
