Asher man to celebrate 100th birthday June 17

Harold William Taft Riggle, Asher, first picked up a harmonica in 1925. On June 17, 2009, Taft will turn 100.

Harold enjoys hunting, fishing, playing dominoes and playing his harmonica.

Born to Nora Alice Riggle, a housewife and Edward Harrison Riggle, a farmer, in 1909, Harold followed in his father’s footsteps and was a farmer and rancher all his life. He was also a construction worker, pipeline and bridge builder, a school bus driver for Asher Public Schools for 11 years, worked for Tinker Field for one year and for Asher with the water and sewer system for six years. Harold currently lives on the same plot of land where he was born.

He married Lillian Maurice Riggle and, together, they had seven children. She passed away in 1997.

Harold has certainly seen some changes in the landscape. When he was born, the primary modes of transportation in this area horses.

Harold was named after President William Howard Taft.

This Sunday, June 14, Harold’s birthday will be held at the Asher Senior Center at 110 N. Division Street in Asher, Oklahoma. The event is open to friends and family.
