Bomb scare

Police evacuate Ada Post Office after threat

By Randy Mitchell

Staff Writer

ADA — Ada Post Office was temporarily evacuated after a bomb threat Monday.

The call came in to the post office during the lunch hour rush. The call was from a female who reportedly said she was going to put a bomb in the building and blow it up.

Police evacuated and searched the building as a precaution. A section of 12th Street from Rennie to Broadway was closed off to pedestrian and auto traffic.

Ada Post Master Carol Johnson said it is standard procedure to vacate the building in such an event.

“Because you never know,” Johnson said. “We always take the extra precaution."

Authorities reopened the building after nothing suspicious was found. Ada Assistant Police Chief Carl Allen said he does have a suspect.

“We have a suspect and my investigators are looking into it,” Allen said.

Allen went on to say the suspect could face charges of making a terroristic threat and because it is a federal building, could also face federal charges.

“Some serious felonies could arise from it, prison time — it’s a big deal,” Allen said.

Johnson said they are not taking the situation lightly.

“No matter what the intent of the person is, everything is taken seriously,” Johnson said. “We don’t let anything slide.”
