COALGATE—A Coal County teen was seriously injured in an ATV accident shortly after 12 a.m. Thursday 6 miles west of Coalgate on private property, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper John Fugate said in a report.
Kaleb R. Taylor, 17, Coalgate, was driving a Kawasaki ATV on a private ATV track. He failed to make a curve and overturned, Fugate said.
Taylor was ejected approximately five feet. He was taken by Coal County EMS to Mary Hurley Hospital in Coalgate, then by medical helicopter to Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Taylor was admitted with neck and external trunk injuries. A spokesperson for Presbyterian Hospital said he remains in serious condition.
Fugate listed conditions as clear and dry and said Taylor was not wearing a helmet. In his investigative opinion, Fugate listed the cause of the accident as unsafe speed on a curve or turn.
