Officers kill 3 dangerous dogs

Randy Mitchell Staff Writer

Ada Ada police were forced to kill three pit bull dogs after they reportedly invaded a resident’s backyard and killed a family pet June 25.

Officer Dewayne Campbell was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of W. 17th after a woman called 911 to report the incident, according to a police report.

She told police she heard dogs barking in the area behind her house. When she stepped out onto her porch, she saw three pit bull dogs eating one of her two small dogs. While she was attempting to rescue her other dog and take it inside, the pit bulls turned and attacked her.

“Upon our arrival, Officer Casey Northcutt, Officer Michael Meeks and I witnessed three very large pit bull dogs in the backyard,” Campbell said in the report.

“The dogs were very aggressive, barking and growling at us as we approached the fence. I observed that the three pit bull dogs had blood around their mouths and they would charge the fence as we approached.”

Campbell said one of the dogs almost jumped the fence in an attempt to attack Northcutt.

The officers fired several shots from their patrol shotguns, killing the dogs. Animal control was called to remove the dead animals.

Police believe the pit bull dogs belong to someone who lives on south Cherry Street. A citation for allowing dangerous animals to run loose could be issued.
