Coalgate plans Independence Day celebration

COALGATE — Coal County Chamber of Commerce, city of Coalgate, Coal County and individuals and business of the area are hosting the county’s 22nd annual Independence Day celebration July 3-4.
Events kick off July 3 with a street dance in the Shamrock Bank parking lot. The event features a live band from 8 p.m. until midnight.
On July 4, the celebration begins with a Country Songs theme parade at 11 a.m. downtown Coalgate. Parade lineup on Stacy Street is at 10 a.m. Lunch, sponsored by Coal County Homemakers, will be served in the park building. Cost is $6 per person.
A variety of booths will be open at the park and games such as terrapin races and volleyball will be available throughout the day. The swimming pool opens at 12:30 p.m.
Political speaking begins at 4:30 p.m. followed by a music concert with Wild Bill and The Awesome Possum Band and the Fort Arbuckle Bluegrass Band.
Parade winners will be announced at 7 p.m. and a large fireworks display begins at 9:45 p.m.
