Starbucks to remain open in Ada

Judd Morse Staff Writer

Ada After making an announcement in early July that the company will be closing 600 stores, Starbucks has released a comprehensive list detailing precisely which of the company-owned coffee shops are slated to be shut down. The Ada Starbucks is not on that list, although 15 Starbucks within Oklahoma will be closing.

Starbucks stores that will be closing in Oklahoma are: 1610 N. Main St., Altus; 1100 S. Lynn Riggs Blvd., Claremore; 4755 SE 29th St., Del City; 2015 W. Danforth Rd., Edmond; 2141 W 15th St., Edmond; 1204 NW Sheridan Rd., Lawton; 427 S. George Nigh Expy., McAlester; 591 W. Shawnee, Muskogee; 12124 N. Pennsylvania Ave., OKC; 3131 W. Memorial, OKC; 125 W. Britton Rd., OKC; 9201 S Wern Ave., OKC; 2400 N 14th St., Ponca City; 1702 S. Muskogee Ave, Tahlequah; 9524 E 81st St., Tulsa.

The 600 stores on the list include 100 stores previously targeted for closing. Additionally, Starbucks expects to open fewer than 200 new company-operated stores during the 2009 fiscal year. The majority of those stores closing are expected to do so during the remainder of FY 2008 and the first half of FY 2009.

“Throughout the history of the company, we have always aspired to put our people first. This makes our decision to close stores difficult, because it is disrupting the lives of the people who have worked so hard to deliver superior service to our customers,” said Howard Schultz, chairman, president and CEO. “We sincerely thank each one of them and are very proud of their many contributions to the company. At the same time, we recognize that it is necessary to make decisions that will strengthen the U.S. store portfolio and enable us to enter into fiscal 2009 focused on enhancing operating efficiency, improving customer satisfaction and ensuring long-term value for our partners, customers and shareholders.”

A complete list of all the stores that Starbucks plans to close can be found on the company’s Web site, www.starbucks.com.
