Woman dies in crash

Randy Mitchell Staff Writer

Bromide A Coalgate woman died in a two-vehicle accident one mile south of Bromide on State Highway 7D Sunday.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Miles Anderson said the accident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. David Brown, 45, Coalgate, was driving a 1994 Chevrolet pickup west on a county road. Brown reportedly failed to yield at a stop sign and was hit in the driver’s side by a 2005 Chevrolet pickup driven north on SH 7D by Joshua Lemmond, 17, Atoka.

A passenger in Brown’s vehicle, Stormy Palmer, 26, Coalgate, was taken by Johnston County EMS to Johnston County Memorial Hospital.

She died of internal injuries, according to Oklahoma State Medical Examiner John Miller.

Brown was pinned for 20 minutes before being freed by Tishomingo firefighters using hydraulic cutting and prying tools. He was taken by Air Evac to Norman Regional Hospital and admitted in critical condition with a head injury.

Another passenger in Brown’s vehicle, Dominique Campbell, 10, Atoka, was taken by Johnston County EMS to a hospital in Ada and admitted for observation.

Joshua Lemmond and two passengers, Lorrie Lemmond, 41, and Austin Lemmond, 13, both of Atoka, were taken to an Ada hospital. Austin Lemmond was admitted with internal and external injuries. Joshua Lemmond and Lorrie Lemmond were treated and released.

Anderson said the roads were dry and no one in Brown’s vehicle was wearing a seat belt. He listed the cause of the collision as failure to stop at sign and said based on his investigative opinion, he suspects Brown was driving under the influence.

He was also assisted at the scene by firefighters from Bromide, Wapanucka and Connerville.
