The Pontotoc County Farm Bureau is holding a “Meet the Candidates” forum tonight at 6 p.m., in the North Room of Pontotoc County Agri-plex. Joe D. West will be master of ceremonies.
The three candidates for District 25 State House of Representatives seat (Republican incumbent Todd Thomsen, Democrat challenger Gary Starns, and Democrat challenger Darrell Nemecek) will be in attendance. Also slated to appear are candidates for the office of Pontotoc County sheriff (challenger John Christian and incumbent Pete Peterson), along with Pontotoc County Commissioner for District 2 (incumbent Carl Wages, challenger Harvey Wilson, and challenger Danny Davis). A representative for Republican Dana Murphy will be in attendance, and a representative for Democrat Jim Roth may also attend. Roth and Murphy are running for Corporation Commissioner, short term. On the U.S. Rep. level, Republican incumbent Tom Cole will be sending Bob Drake as his representative; challengers Blake Cummings and David Joyce are not scheduled to be in attendance. An invitation to participate was also extended to U.S. Senate candidates, but no response was returned from any of the candidates.
The forum will allow candidates to address those assembled and shed light on various topics regarding their candidacy. After the final candidate has spoken, the audience will be invited to ask questions of the individual candidates.
Refreshments will be served.
