Allen family gathers for 39th annual reunion

Ada The 39th annual Allen family reunion brought family and friends from near and far. It was held on Saturday, July 5, at the home of Ruby and the late P.H. Allen.

Long time family favorite of fried catfish and hushpuppies were joined with coleslaw, French fries, hot links, and hot dogs with all the fixings were provided from funds from the previous auction earnings. Family members brought salads, fried pies, cookies, cakes, and homemade ice cream to share. Lots of ice chest tea, sweet tea, lemonade and soda pop were consumed on this hot July day.

Once again, the proficient auctioneer was Bobby Stuart and he was assisted by the delightful Stacy Hopper and Katrina Gore. Mamie Stuart’s big basket of home canned harvest captured the highest bid, along with a crocheted afghan by Jean Cheek.

Descendants of P.A. and Annie Allen and their late children Lena Brown, Pete Allen, Blanche Cheek, Edna Burns, P. Harrison Allen, J.C. Allen, Ollie Allen, Henry Allen as well as Harold Allen and Sylvia Simpson hosted or attended the annual event. One hundred twenty five people signed the guest book, the oldest being Sylvia Simpson and Harold Allen.

Plans are under way for the 40th annual reunion, to be held July 4, 2009.



Martin family

NORMAN — Family and friends of the late Otis Martin Sr. and Viola Roundtree Martin met July 4 for a reunion at the home of Pepper and Kelly Martin east of Norman.

The day started early with the men playing golf at Earlywine Golf Course in Oklahoma City. After a light lunch family members spent the afternoon swimming, fishing, playing basketball and visiting with family and friends. Dinner of grilled hamburgers and hotdogs was served, followed by homemade ice cream and fireworks.
