Pontotoc Technology Center will be having a “Back to School Bash” Thursday Aug. 28 from 4-7 p.m.
PTC will have a showing of their new Apple Mac Computer Lab and the 911 Dispatch Training Center. Residents, students and their families are invited to attend and tour the facility. Information booths will be available for area businesses and free hot dogs will be served.
Information Technology Teacher Christy Morris said the computer lab was recently outfitted with 20 brand new 24-inch Apple iMac computers.
“They will be duel-boot, and actually they’re going to get a parallel software where we will be able to pull up XP and OS10 at the same time,” Morris said.
Morris teaches computer repair, networking, graphic design, web design and digital photography at PTC.
PTC Fire Training Coordinator Benny Cope said the 911 Dispatch Training Center class will allow students to learn what is involved in being a 911 dispatcher.
“It’s one of those jobs where you don’t know if you can do it or not,” Cope said. “You really don’t want to quit your (current) job to find out.”
Cope said if a person wants to make a career change but isn’t sure if being a 911 dispatcher is right for them, they can take evening courses.
Cope said this will help prospective trainees because 911 dispatcher training is usually expensive and students must travel long distances for classes.
