Two Ada teens were seriously injured in a one vehicle accident in Haskell County Sunday.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Justin Williams said in a report the accident occurred at 1:40 a.m. on East County Road 1174 three-and-a-half miles south of Keota.
Shane Watie, 19, Keota, was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am east when he lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and hit several trees before coming to rest in the roadway.
Watie died at the scene. Two passengers in the vehicle, Latonna Leyva, 18, and Robert Hurt II, 17, both of Ada, were ejected from the vehicle.
Leyva was taken to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and admitted in critical condition with head, external, internal, arm and leg injuries.
Hurt was taken to Stigler Hospital with head, external, internal and arm injuries. Officials would not comment on Hurt’s condition or if he was admitted, the report said.
Another passenger, David Star, 19, Cowlington, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A fourth passenger, Jessica Feldmeier, 19, Keota, was ejected. She was taken to Stigler Hospital with head, external, internal, arm and leg injuries.
Williams said based on his investigative opinion, Watie’s ability was impaired from drinking alcohol and that was the cause of the crash, the trooper said in the teletype.
