State Sen. Susan Paddack will bring civics to life for local students. She is one of thousands of lawmakers from across the country participating in the annual “America’s Legislators Back to School” program sponsored by the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL).
“This is a nonpartisan program designed to help students learn about how state government works, and why it is so important to get involved,” Paddack said.
“When it was launched in 1999, it was hoped that it could help counter a lack of interest by young people who weren’t voting or participating in the process. Studies show young people are being impacted through this program and have a better understanding of government.”
Paddack, who is Co-Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Education and a former teacher, will visit Byng Junior High on Tuesday, September 30. Monday, October 6, she’ll head to Paoli High School, and Wednesday, October 8, she’ll visit with students at Stuart and Moss Elementary Schools. She will also be scheduling visits to additional schools in the area.
“Back to School is a program I always look forward to—these students are going to be citizens and even leaders in the years to come,” Paddack said.
“Helping them understand the importance of participating in our democracy now is so critical. Oklahoma is poised for greatness, and students will be the people who make that happen.”
