(AP) — Here are the conditions at Oklahoma lakes as reported Wednesday, Oct. 8, by the state Department of Wildlife Conservation and lake rangers.
CENTRAL
Draper: Elevation normal, water clear. All fishing slow. Report submitted by Tony Woodruff, game warden stationed in Cleveland County.
Hefner: Elevation below normal, water 85 degrees and murky. White bass good on white grubs. Channel catfish good on cut shad. Crappie good on jigs and minnows. Walleye good trolling. Report submitted by Tim Campbell, game warden stationed in Oklahoma County.
Thunderbird: Elevation normal, water clear. All fishing slow. Report submitted by Tony Woodruff, game warden stationed in Cleveland County.
Wes Watkins: Elevation 1 to 11⁄2 ft. below normal, water 72 to 78 degrees and murky. Crappie fair to good on jigs and minnows around structure. Catfish good on shad, shrimp, worms, minnows and assorted stinkbaits. Largemouth bass fair on assorted soft plastics in the early morning on topwaters, spinnerbaits around grassy and weed beds. North gates open daily at sunrise and closes at sunset. South gate open only on weekends sunrise to sunset. Report submitted by M. Fowler.
NORTHEAST
Bell Cow: Elevation below normal and clear. Largemouth bass slow. Channel catfish good on doughbaits and stinkbaits. Crappie fair on minnows. Report submitted by Gary Emmons, game warden stationed in Lincoln County.
Chandler: Elevation below normal and clear. Bass slow. Catfish slow. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows. Report submitted by Gary Emmons, game warden stationed in Lincoln County.
Copan: Elevation normal, water stained. Crappie good on jigs near submerged structure at 6 to 12 ft. Channel catfish fair on rod and reel, juglines with shad, stinkbait and worms. Flathead and channel catfish slow below the dam on fresh cut, live shad and worms. Report submitted by Joe Alexander, game warden stationed in Washington County.
Eucha: Elevation slightly above normal, water 71 degrees and murky. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows around brush and structure at 12 to 14 ft. Largemouth bass fair on spinnerbaits. Report submitted by Dwight Moore, City of Tulsa Fisheries.
Fort Gibson: Elevation 11⁄2 ft. above and dropping slowly. Water 78 degrees and stained. Fort Gibson lake will host the 2008 Yamaha BASS Club World Championship this week and the fishing couldn’t be better for largemouth bass. The water temperatures have dropped and the fish have moved shallower and are holding around every piece of underwater structure that I run across on the sonar last week. Crankbaits and soft plastics producing some very nice fish. Catfish are still good on jug lines using sunfish, wieners or cut shad but the white bass have slowed down. Crappie can be found in the brush and under docks at around at 10 to 15 ft. on jigs tipped with small minnows. Report submitted by Rick Stafford at www.3riverguideservice.com.
Grand: Upper end: Elevation 2 ft. above normal, water 74 degrees and murky. Largemouth good on black/blue jigs, small crankbaits. Smallmouth bass fair small spinners in rivers. White bass fair to good trolling roostertails, catching them off bluffs, drop offs, around bridges. Catfish good on shad, worms, livers at 40 ft. for big ones, at 10 to 15 ft. for 3 to 5 pounders. Crappie good on minnows/shiners, grandpa jigs chartreuse, red/black chartreuse, red chartreuse at 15 ft. around bridges, docks, and brush piles.
Greenleaf: Elevation normal, water 74 degrees and clear. Smallmouth bass good on spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Channel catfish good on stinkbaits and crankbaits on bottom. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around fishing dock and brush structure. Report submitted by Lark Wilson, game warden stationed in Muskogee County.
Hudson: Elevation normal. Crappie fair to good on minnows and jigs around brush. Report submitted by Steve Loveland, game warden stationed in Rogers and Mayes Counties.
Hulah: Elevation normal and clear. Crappie good on jigs near submerged structure at 6 to 12 ft. Channel catfish fair on cut shad. Blue, flathead and channel catfish slow below the dam on live or fresh cut shad. Report submitted by Joe Alexander, game warden stationed in Washington County.
Lower Illinois: Elevation normal, water 71 degrees and murky. All fishing slow. Report submitted by D. Tracy, Town of Gore.
Oologah: Elevation 31⁄2 ft. above normal and falling. Water 70 degrees and murky. Blue catfish good on the north end of the lake around standing timber fishing with livers at 10 ft. Crappie fair around brush piles using minnows and jigs at 10 to 15 ft. Blue and channel catfish fair below the dam on shad. White bass and crappie fair below the dam on jigs. Sooner: White bass and striped bass hybrids fair on live shad in the flats. Report submitted by Doug Gottschalk, game warden stationed in Noble County.
Spavinaw: Elevation slightly above normal, water 74 degrees and murky. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows around the dam area. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits. Report submitted by Dwight Moore, City of Tulsa Fisheries.
Webbers Falls: Elevation 2 ft. above normal, water 74 degrees and murky. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits, spinners and plastic worms in creek channel, along riprap and in weed beds. Channel catfish good on cut bait on bottom. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around brush structure and bridges. Report submitted by Lark Wilson, game warden stationed in Muskogee County.
NORTHWEST
Canton: Elevation normal. White bass and striped bass hybrids excellent drifting shad or trolling crankbaits near drop-offs. Channel catfish good on shad and stinkbait in the upper end of the lake. Walleye fair trolling crankbaits and drifting night crawlers near drop offs. Report submitted by Mark Walker, game warden stationed in Blaine County.
Fort Supply: Elevation normal and clear. Channel catfish fair on live shad and stinkbait. Report submitted by Mark Reichenberger, game warden stationed in Harper County.
SOUTHEAST
Arbuckle: Elevation 3 ft. below normal, water 77 degrees and clear. Crappie fair to good on marked brush piles and docks. White bass surfacing mid lake late evening and hitting spoons at 25 to 30 ft. Bass good early and late on topwater, spinnerbaits and shaky jig worms. Channel catfish slow. Sunfish good up in day along bluffs using flyrod and poppers. Report submitted by Jack Melton.
Broken Bow: Elevation normal and clear. Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass fair on jigs and deep running crankbaits around structure and rocky points. Channel catfish fair on juglines and trotlines baited with cut bait. Crappie good in the upper end of the lake around structure and standing timber on minnows and jigs. Walleye fair on deep running crankbaits and crawdad colored jigs. Report submitted by Dru Polk, game warden stationed in McCurtain County.
Eufaula: Elevation normal and clear. Largemouth bass good on crankbaits along rocky areas and windy points. Blue catfish fair on fresh shad drifting shallow flats. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 8 to 18 ft. around boat dock and standing timber in deeper flats. Report submitted by Ed Rodebush, game warden stationed in McIntosh County.
Hugo: Elevation above normal, water 77 degrees. Five flood gates are open. Channel catfish fair trolling with sunfish. Blue catfish good to excellent below the dam on cut shad and worms. Crappie fair on minnows around brush. Report submitted by Jay Harvey, game warden stationed in Choctaw and Bryan Counties.
Konawa: Elevation normal, water 74 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass good on crankbaits off points and road beds at 5 to 10 ft. Channel catfish good on chicken liver in the discharge canal at 15 ft. Report submitted by Daryl Howser, game warden stationed in Seminole County.
Pine Creek: Elevation slightly above normal and clear. Bass fair on soft plastics around points at 8 to 12 ft. Crappie great on minnows around timber. Catfish good on night crawlers and magic bait. Report Submitted by Mark Hannah, game warden stationed in McCurtain County.
Robert S. Kerr: Elevation normal, water 74 degrees and murky. Largemouth bass fair from the surface to 6 ft. using topwater baits early and late and plastic baits midday. Crappie fair at 8 ft. using minnows fishing the old creek channels of Big Sans Bois and Dirty creeks. White bass slow at 8 ft. trolling jigs and crankbaits in the Sallisaw creek areas. Blue catfish good at 5 to 15 ft. using fresh cut shad fishing the edge of the old Arkansas River channel. Report submitted by Rick Olzawski, game warden stationed in Haskell County.
Sardis Lake: Bass good to fair on crank baits around points and creek channels and around cover on spinnerbaits. Crappie good off of Jack Fork bridge with minnows and off of tower on live minnows, and on brush piles using pink grubs or green and black. Flathead catfish slow on live bait on jugs or trotlines. Blue and channel catfish fair on jugs and trotlines on cut bait or shrimp. White bass good trolling around islands and on plugs and excellent when found surfacing. Walleye fair on plugs trolling. Texoma: Elevation 1 ft. below normal, water 78 degrees and clear. Largemouth and smallmouth bass fair to good on surface lures and plastic combination baits around the creek channels. Striped and white bass fair to good on live bait, surface lures, and sassy shad in the south end of the lake. Channel and blue catfish fair to good on live bait, cut shad and worms north of the Hwy. 70 bridge. Crappie fair to good on minnows and jigs in Little Glasses and Widow Moore creeks. Sunfish good on worms around the fish attractors. All other fishing is slow at this time. Report submitted by Danny Clubb, game warden stationed in Bryan County.
Wister: Elevation normal, water murky. Largemouth bass good on 10 to 12 inch crawfish colored worms. Crappie good on small spinnerbaits and jigs at brush piles. Channel catfish good on juglines with cut shad and liver. Report submitted by Randy Fennell, game warden stationed in LeFlore County.
