Sulphur to host city's first Redneck Games

SULPHUR — Saturday, Oct. 25, Sulphur Chamber of Commerce will host the first ever Sulphur Redneck Games from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Sulphur businesses will sponsor a variety of family-friendly games and activities free to the public. The Redneck Games will be held at the Sulphur Chamber of Commerce and will extend east into the Vendome Well area of Chickasaw National Recreation Area.
“Our goal is to provide an afternoon of entertainment at no cost to families,” stated Shelly Sawatzky, executive director of the Sulphur Chamber of Commerce. “We will have a variety of games suitable for all ages.”
A Redneck ATV & Truck Show will be one of the highlights of the day. The three categories of vehicles judged will be ATV’s, golf carts, and trucks. Registration will begin at 12 p.m. at the Sulphur Chamber of Commerce located at 717 W. Broadway with judging to begin at 2 p.m.
Each entrant is encouraged to take a container for the public to put money in to cast votes for the vehicle of their choice. The entry with the most money collected will receive the title of Redneck Favorite. All money raised will go to a local charity.
A Redneck Dessert Contest will also be a popular feature of the day. There is no charge for entry in this event. Registration will begin at 12 p.m. with all entries divided into two divisions, under 18 and 18 and older. For safety reasons, no refrigerated desserts will be allowed.
A goldfish race, belching contest, toilet seat toss, egg toss, a Redneck Ping Pong Tournament, a goat dress up, domino tournament and many more games will be going on throughout the afternoon. The only activity with a cost involved is Cow Pattie Bingo. Numbered squares will be marked off and sold for a $10 donation.
A cow will be placed in an enclosure and the first square the cow drops a pattie on will be the winner. There is only a limited amount of squares available and they will be sold beginning Thursday.
A Halloween costume contest sponsored by Sulphur Main Street will begin at 5 p.m. at Third and Muskogee Streets with registration beginning at 4 p.m. For more information phone the Sulphur Chamber of Commerce at 580-622-2824.
