ECU student receives honor

Anthony Buoy, Meeker, was recently honored as he received the American Farmer Degree from the National Future Farmers of America Association. The awards ceremony was held in Indianapolis, Ind.

The degree is given to less than 1 percent of the total enrollment in FFA and is considered the highest award given by the national organization and honors him for his accomplishments through high school and until now.

Buoy is currently a sophomore at East Central University and a 2008 graduate of Meeker High School.

He has his own herd of registered Maine-Anjou and Angus Maine Cross cattle. He was the county champion tractor driver, selected as a delegate to the Noble Foundation as a junior, and was President of Meeker FFA from 2006-2008.

Buoy received the State Farmer Degree in 2008, was Star Greenhand and Star Chapter Farmer during his high school career. He also served as class officer and was Student Council President. He is a member of the Maine-Anjou Cattle Association. He Anthony drove the chapter’s antique tractor in the Oklahoma Centennial Parade in Oklahoma City and has earned several other agriculture, scholastic and athletic awards.

He has entertained as a singer at the Oklahoma State Fair, FFA convention, National Junior Optimist Convention and other events.

“I’d like to thank Wayne Anderson, my FFA advisor for all his help, and a special thanks to Ginger Pritchard for all her assistance,” Buoy said, as he headed for Indianapolis to received the honor today.

He is the son of Steve and Cheryl Buoy of Meeker, grandson of Bill Buoy of Shawnee, the late Margie Buoy of Shawnee and Clorine Prewett of Tecumseh.
