ADA — An Ada man was sentenced to life without parole Thursday for the December shooting death of a 17-year-old Tishomingo teen, according to a report in The Oklahoman.
Scotty Ladell Brooks, 27, entered a no-contest plea to first-degree murder in the shooting death of Dale Catron. Brooks faced the possibility of lethal injection but avoided it with the plea bargain with Pontotoc County prosecutors.
Brooks faced eight other Pontotoc County criminal cases. Those charges were dropped in the plea agreement.
Prosecutors said Brooks shot and killed Catron Dec. 1. Catron’s cousin told police the two were walking in Ada when they were invited into a home at about 10:45 p.m. There, Brooks was drinking with friends. The cousin said Dale Catron was shot after he claimed a gang affiliation, the report said.
