International Dinner planned

ADA — Experience cultures from around the world without ever leaving Ada. For one night of the year, East Central University’s International Student Connection Club will offer exotic food and gifts from countries around the world.

Feasting begins with the International Food Fair at 6 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Stanley Wagner Ballroom in the Memorial Student Union. International students will prepare their favorite native dishes, such as jerk chicken, curry goat and green fig and salt fish.

A daylong market will include international shopping. The First Presbyterian Church will co-sponsor the Alternative Gifts Market and Ten Thousand Villages booths in the Student Union’s North Lounge from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Alternative Gifts offers opportunities to purchase sponsorships such as snacks for a day care center in South America or turkeys for a Thanksgiving dinner in Ada. Ten Thousand Villages helps artisans in 36 countries by marketing and selling their handcrafted products.

The International Student Connection Club at ECU is an organization for international students and anyone interested in cultural awareness and diversity. Proceeds from the Food Fair contribute to scholarships for the international students. ECU has 73 students from 29 countries enrolled this year.

Tickets for the International Food Fair are $6 for all students and $12 for adults and are available in the International Students Office in the Administration Building.

There is no admission fee for the gift market.
