New class graduates Nov. 10; some still need homes

Ada The most recent class of dogs from A New Leash on Life graduates Tuesday, Nov. 10. “Unfortunately, there are a few really nice dogs that have not yet been adopted,” Lewis said. “All the shelters are over full this time of year, and I really hate to see them go back to a shelter.”

Chester is a big, lovable yellow lab who has done really well with his training. He’s been hard to adopt because of his size, but now he’s just a gentle giant. We thought about taking him for the Assistance dog program, but most shelter dogs who weren’t socialized early don’t adjust to a public environment.” To inquire about Chester, call P.A.W.S., 580-332-4216.

Laney is a small, spunky terrier mix who loves to please and will steal your heart. To find out more about her, contact the Southern Oklahoma Animal Resources in Madill, 580-795-7066.

“Both of these dogs are great companions and deserve a new leash on life! They’ve done enough time behind bars. “The dogs have already learned a few tricks, are house broken, crate trained and know the following commands: sit, down, off, come and wait.”

Lewis, who lives adjacent to the New Leash training facility in Blanchard, works seven days a week and also drives 250 miles a day carrying on the work of A New Leash on Life, Inc.

When asked what drives her to make A New Leash on Life her life, she said, “It’s the clients. Seeing how important their Assistance Dogs are to them—and what a difference our dogs make in the lives of the inmates who train them and the people who adopt them—makes me go to any length to make sure this program grows and survives.”

A New Leash on Life, Inc. is a 501-c3 non-profit organization that depends solely on donations from the public and volunteers to support its mission of changing people’s lives through specially trained dogs.
