County stimulus funds tally: $2.8 million

Pontotoc County Pontotoc County is receiving $2.8 million in federal stimulus money, according to msn.com’s “Stimulus Tracker,” a website detailing how much has been earmarked for each county under the “American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.”

Congress passed the $787 billion funding package in February.

Of states receiving money, California has claimed $11.2 billion, the most, followed by Texas at $7.5 billion and Washington D.C. at an even $7 billion. Oklahoma’s $1.7 billion ranks 25th in monies received.

Of Oklahoma counties, Tulsa County is set to gain the most — $345 million. Oklahoma County got $87.4 million in stimulus funds.

In money allotted to Pontotoc County, the state highway department garnered $1.4 million to perform work on a bridge over Grayson Creek located two miles south and 6.7 miles east of State Hwy 59A and State Hwy 3W.

The Chickasaw Nation received $1.02 million to conduct an energy audit. The Nation also received $25,000 to renovate a walk-in cooler at the Chickasaw Nation Nutrition Services building located at 518 E. Arlington.

Another $276,244 of stimulus money went to perform work on a bridge over Mill Creek located a half mile north and two miles east of Fittstown. In Pontotoc County, architectural and engineering services for Upper Clear Boggy Creek received $85,622.

Surrounding counties receiving stimulus package funds are as follows:

Pittsburg, $76.7 million; Garvin, $58.2 million; Murray, $17.7 million; Seminole, $15.7 million; Atoka, $12.8 million; McClain, $10.7 million; Pottawatomie, $5.1 million; Coal, $1.2 million; Hughes, $1.1 million; and Johnston, $442.5 thousand.
