Latta class of 1959 gathers in Ada for reunion
LATTA — Latta class of 1959 from Latta School met for its 50th year reunion Sept. 5 at Chickasaw Community Center in Ada. Visitation, picture taking and refreshments were enjoyed during the afternoon. Refreshments were furnished by Louise Dew Bryant, Francis Biggs Thornton, Kay Cooper Jackson and Carolyn Swanson James.
Tammy Abney made and shared a computer video of classmates from pictures taken over the past 50 years. Several classmates brought pictures and other memorabilia to share with those in attendance. Classmates also enjoyed looking through the 1949-50 (third grade) and the 1958-59 (seniors) Latta Panther Yearbooks. A memoriam board was displayed with pictures and names of deceased classmates. Names honored were Charles "Chuck" Stephens, Ray Elliott, Leroy Bivins, John Laxton, Ronnie Morris, Paul Scates, Florence Pollock Chaney, Carol Scott Fairbanks, Jerry Reamy, Betty Morrison Turner and Maxey Ayres.
A catered dinner was served at 6 p.m. Carolyn Coffey Minson donated floral arrangements for the tables. Following dinner, a business meeting was conducted and classmates decided to have another reunion on June 4, 2010, at the home of Lee George.
Classmates attending from out of town included Kenneth Little and Kenneth Martin from Washington, J.C. Carroll from Louisiana, Brenda Stonecipher Peterson from Texas, Eddie Blake from California; Carolyn Coffey Minson and Allan Cochran from Arkansas.
Classmates attending from out of town were Lynn Brantley Marquis, Holdenville, Leon and Kay Cooper Jackson and Jerry Beller, Coalgate, Jan Newton, Durant, and Billy Joe James, Roff.
Classmates from the Ada area included Charles Weber, Jo Pendleton Chronister, Lee George, Carolyn Swanson James, Francis Biggs Thornton, Jerry Dyer, Noralene Andrews Groves, Louise Dew Bryant, Bill Roper and Ishmal Tatum.
Visitors attending were Joe Marquis, Willie Martin, Charlotte Dyer, Donna Beller, Carrel Bryant, Richard Pederson, Pat Cochran, Jerry Henderson, Dewayne Coffey, Jan George Womack, Donnie James and Jimmy Jackson.
