AT&T strengthens mobile coverage in Fittstown

OKLAHOMA CITY — In a continuing effort to address the growing demand for advanced wireless data products and services, AT&T* announced the activation of a new cell site near Fittstown that will enhance coverage for area residents and businesses.

The new tower is one of more than 30 new cell sites slated for the state of Oklahoma in 2009. From 2006 to 2008, AT&T’s capital investment in its wireless and wireline networks in Oklahoma was more than $675 million.

The new site is part of AT&T’s investment to build the broadband networks that will create jobs and fuel economic growth, and enable customers to access the content, applications and services that matter most to them.

“This expansion demonstrates our ongoing commitment to invest in Oklahoma,” said Steve Gray, vice president and general manager, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, Arkansas and Oklahoma. “It also illustrates our goal to provide the very best wireless experience possible, which includes unmatched coverage and quality of service in more places for consumers and business customers who need to stay connected to work, family and friends.”

The network expansion efforts help address the growing demand for advanced wireless products and services as more and more people’s lives become increasingly mobile and fast-paced.

Jason Winborn, AT&T area manager of External Affairs, credited state Sen. Susan Paddack and state Reps. Paul Roan and Todd Thomsen for helping to create a business environment in Oklahoma that encourages new investments in technology.

“With this new cell tower in the Fittstown area, we now have even better wireless service in the marketplace, and that’s always good for local residents,” Paddack said. “New wireless technology benefits our business community, our local economy and our overall quality of life.”

“This investment will have a positive impact in this area and provide many advantages to our local residents,” Roan said.

Thomsen said wireless phone service has become a necessary part of everyday life. “Business owners today need to always be available no matter where they are,” Thomsen said. “I’m glad that AT&T is working to keep everyone connected.”

AT&T’s mobile network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most open and widely used wireless network platforms in the world. As a result, only AT&T can offer data roaming in more than 170 countries, as well as voice calling in more than 215 countries.
