Old Bank Gallery hosts art show Dec. 3-27

ADA — Old Bank Gallery, 201 W. Main, presents a special exhibit, "Two Men and Their Art," Dec. 3-27. The gallery will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

An artists' reception for John Boettcher and Bill Roach will be 1-4 p.m. Dec. 6.

John Boettcher was born in Columbus, Neb., in 1955. In 1963 his family moved to Ada. He attended Ada public schools until his graduation form high school in 1974. After attending Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, he returned to Ada. He attended East Central University where he studied under D.J. Lafon, Bob Seig and Bob Barker while earning a bachelor's degree in fine arts in 1979 and a master's degree in 1985. Boettcher taught art at Ada High School for 28 years. Since his retirement in May 2008, he enjoys painting full time.

"I believe the primary function of art is aesthetics. Unfortunately, an all-encompassing definition of aesthetics is just out of reach," Boettcher said.

Roach was born and raised in Oklahoma. His early education was in Fox Public Schools and later at Wewoka. He attended East Central University in Ada from 1958-1962 where he earned a bachelor of arts degree. He received a masters of art degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

He was a teacher of art in Longmont, Colo., for 35 years.

He retired in 1997 and returned to Ada. He is an adjunct professor in the art department at ECU where he teaches jewelry making. He is also involved in Ada Artists Association and a member/owner of Old Bank Fine Art Gallery.

He creates his one-of-a-kind designs in his studio in Ada
