Habitat for Humanity takes applications for potential homeowners

Ada Ada Habitat for Humanity is taking applications from low income and very low-income families in the Ada area to become Habitat homeowners.

Habitat families are selected on the basis of housing need, ability to repay the home loan, and willingness to participate as a partner in Habitat’s ministry.

Habitat home loans are issued on a no-profit, no-interest basis over a fixed period of time, usually about 20 years. Monthly housing payments go into a revolving fund which supports the construction of more homes.

Habitat uses volunteer labor and donations to provide homes for no profit, no interest, to people who do not have an adequate place to live.

Habitat has four requirements for home applicants.

1. The yearly income requirements for applicants must fit in the low income or very-low income areas. Call 310-9300 for more information on Rural Development Income Guidelines.

2. Applicants must be willing to live in an area in Ada where Ada Habitat for Humanity has lots or homes to renovate or build.

3. Applicants must be able to put in volunteer time to build or renovate the home in order to meet “sweat equity” requirements. Homeowners are required to invest 400 hours of “sweat equity” (labor) into the construction of their home or the homes of other Habitat families.

4. Habitat homeowners must be responsible for the upkeep of the home from the time of occupancy.

The Habitat homeowner selection process is non-discriminatory. Neither race nor religion is a factor.

Applications are available at Tri-County Indian Nation DDC at 115 S. Townsend and the Public Library. Applications must be returned by the deadline of Jan. 15.
