Oklahoma lake report for January 4, 2009

Oklahoma City —
(AP) — Here are the conditions at Oklahoma lakes as reported Wednesday, Dec. 31, by the state Department of Wildlife Conservation and lake rangers.
CENTRAL
Hefner: Elevation above normal, water 43 degrees and murky. Channel catfish good on cut shad. Crappie good on jigs and minnows around the dam. Report submitted by Tim Campbell, game warden stationed in Oklahoma County.
NORTHEAST
Eucha: Elevation slightly above normal, water 45 degrees and murky. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows around brush and structure at 16 to 18 ft. Largemouth bass fair on deep running crankbaits. Report submitted by Dwight Moore, City of Tulsa Fisheries.
Fort Gibson: Elevation 1ft. above normal and clear. Crappie good under the docks in the Mission Bend, Rocky Point and Chouteau Bend Area at 15 to 25 ft. deep on jigs and minnows. Catfish fair on windy points on cut bait. Report submitted by Rick Stafford with www.3riverguideservice.com
Greenleaf: Elevation normal and clear. Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass fair on yellow and white deep diving bill bait around rocky points and creek channels. Catfish fair on cut bait on bottom. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows around fishing docks and brush structure. Report submitted by Lark Wilson, game warden stationed in Muskogee County.
Kaw: Elevation 3 ft. above normal and murky. Crappie good over deep water brush piles at 20 to 22 ft. using Bobby Garland jigs in electric chicken color and chartruese/black. Use light line, 4 lb. to 6 lb., works best, and fish with very little movement, make sure you are directly over the brush. Blue catfish fair to good on juglines in the Coon Creek and Sarge Creek areas on cut shad and moist and chunky dog food at 20 to 30 ft. off of the river channel. Keystone: Elevation 3⁄4 ft. above normal and clear to murky. Largemouth bass fair on blue black and jig and chunck at 8 to 12 ft. in creek channels. Smallmouth bas fair on green pumpkin and jig and chunck at 8 to 12 ft. around drop off and ledges. Spotted bass fair on chrome or white small crankbaits at 8 to 12 ft. off steep rocky banks. White bass fair on minnows and jigs at 4 to 6 ft. below the dam and at 10 to 15 ft. under bridges. Striped bass fair on buck tails at 3 to 6 ft. below the dam. Channel catfish fair on shrimp and livers at 8 to 12 ft. in coves and creeks half way back. Blue catfish good on cut shad at 8 to 12 ft. off ledges along river channel. Flathead catfish slow on large minnows at 10 to 16 ft. along bluffs. Crappie good on blue and white jigs and minnows at 10 to 16 ft. around docks and brush piles. Lower Illinois: Elevation normal, water 50 degrees and clear. Trout excellent on rooster tails, power bait at 3 ft to bottom along the dam and Watts Wildlife River access. Report submitted by D. Tracy, Town of Gore.
Oologah: Elevation 1⁄2 ft. below normal and rising slowly. Water muddy on the north end and clear on the south end. Water temp near 50 degrees. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around brush piles at 5 to 20 ft. and fair on jigs below the dam. Catfish fair on shad around the mouth of the Verdigris River. Spavinaw: Elevation slightly above normal, water 41 degrees and murky. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows around the dam area. Largemouth bass fair on spinnerbaits. Report submitted by Dwight Moore, City of Tulsa Fisheries.
Webbers Falls: Elevation normal and murky. Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass fair on deep diving bill baits and plastic worms in creek channels, along riprap and off rocky points. Catfish fair on cut bait on bottom. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows around brush structure and bridges. Report submitted by Lark Wilson, game warden stationed in Muskogee County.
NORTHWEST
Canton: Elevation 1 ft. below normal. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs near brush along dam and Canadian area. Report submitted by Mark Walker, game warden stationed in Blaine County.
SOUTHEAST
Arbuckle: Elevation 4 ft. below normal, water 44 degrees and stained from algae bloom. Crappie good on brush piles and drop-off. White bass good on slabs and spoons at 35 ft. around drop-offs in mid-lake. Bass fair to good using spoons, drop shots and crankbaits. Report submitted by Jack Melton.
Blue River: Elevation below normal, water 40 degrees and clear. Trout good on power bait and power worms. Trout good on super dupers and roostertails fished slowly. Flyfishing good on wooly buggers, soft hackle pheasants tails, and midges. Smallmouth and spotted bass fair on spinners and small crankbaits. Channel catfish slow on minnows and liver. Broken Bow: Elevation normal, water clear. Largemouth and smallmouth bass fair on jig and pig at 20 to 25 ft. around structure and islands. Catfish fair on trotlines and juglines with cut bait. Walleye picking up on crawdad colored deep running crankbaits around islands and bluffs.
Eufaula: Elevation 12 ft. below normal and clear. Largemouth bass and white bass slow. Blue catfish fair on shad in deep channels. Crappie being caught on minnows or jigs around boat docks with submerged brush. Report submitted by Ed Rodebush, game warden stationed in McIntosh County.
Hugo: Elevation normal, water 58 degrees. Crappie fair on minnows along creek channels. Report submitted by Jay Harvey, game warden stationed in Choctaw and Bryan counties.
McGee Creek: Elevation 1⁄2 ft. below normal, water 50 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass fair on soft plastic lures and jig and pigs fished slowly at 15 to 25 ft. over underwater structure. Report submitted by Larry Luman, game warden stationed in Atoka County.
Murray: No report submitted this week.
Pine Creek: Elevation below normal, water clear. Bass fair on jig, pork, frog combinations around rocky points. Crappie good on spoons in deeper channels. Report submitted by March Hannah, game warden stationed in Seminole County.
Robert S. Kerr: Elevation below normal and murky. Crappie fair at 10 ft. using minnows fishing the old creek channels. Blue catfish good at 8 to 20 ft. using fresh cut shad fishing the windy shorelines around the lake. Report submitted by Rick Olzawski, game warden stationed in Haskell County.
Sardis Lake: Bass good to fair on crankbaits around points and creek channels and around cover on spinnerbaits warmer afternoons best. Crappie good off of Jack Fork bridge with minnows and off of tower on live minnows, and on brush piles using pink grubs or green and black activity is better on sunny days. Flathead catfish slow on live bait on jugs or trotlines. Blue and channel catfish fair on jugs and trotlines on cut bait or shrimp. White bass good trolling around islands and on plugs. Walleye fair trolling around islands and around riprap on deep diving plugs. Report submitted by Alan Couch, game warden stationed in Pushmataha County.
Texoma: Elevation 11⁄2 ft. below normal, water 53 degrees and clear. Striped bass fair to good on live bait from Platter Flats south. Blue and channel catfish fair to good on cut shad from the Hwy. 70 bridge north. Report submitted by Danny Clubb, game warden stationed in Bryan County.
Wister: Elevation normal and murky. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits. Crappie fair on small spinner and jigs. Report submitted by Randy Fennell, game warden stationed in LeFlore County.
SOUTHWEST
Altus-Lugert: Elevation 11 ft. below normal. Trout good on corn in the river. Report submitted by Sue Hokanson, Quartz Mountain State Park.
Foss: Elevation normal, water in the 50’s and clear. Gates closed. Striped bass hybrids good in deep water with slabs. Walleye good near dam on live bait. Catfish, crappie and white bass fair. Report submitted by Eric Puyear, B & K Bait House.
