Ada's Walling leads Blue Angels to title

ADA — Erin Walling, a freshman from Ada, led the Oklahoma Blue Angels to the Adidas Pot of Gold AAU Tournament Championship, March14-16 in Moore.
Walling, who played for Ada High's Class 5A state tournament team and was one of the top freshmen in the area, scored a team-high 12 points in the 47-44 victory over the Oklahoma City Hornets in the finals. She fired in a team-high 15 points in the semifinal victory over Oklahoma Select.
Most recently, the Blue Angels finished third in the Nike Next Level Showcase in Dallas, Texas. Playing against teams in the 18-under division, the Blue Angels won three of four games, losing only to the Future Stars of Texas. Walling tallied double figures in two of the four games, scoring a team-high 17 against the Waco Comets.
The Blue Angels are a 15-under AAU team based in Norman and coached by Darryl Troupe and former first team Big 8 Oklahoma Sooner defensive tackle Richard Turner. The Angels' roster is comprised of players from Norman High, Norman North, Millwood, Heritage Hall, Ada, Putnam West, and Edmond Santa Fe. Walling starts at forward for the team, which includes two players who started for Norman High's 6A state tournament semifinal team and one who started for Millwood's 3A state championship club.
The Angels finished 10th in the 2007 AAU national tournament, held in Kings Island, Ohio, winning six games and losing two in the two-week tournament. The 2008 national tournament will be held in Clarksville, Tennessee in July.
The Blue Angels will begin qualification play later this month.
