Oklahoma Lake Report

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Here are the conditions at Oklahoma lakes as reported Wednesday, July 15, by the state Department of Wildlife Conservation and lake rangers.

CENTRAL

Arcadia: July 13 — white bass fair on spinnerbaits and crankbaits surfacing early and late. Crappie fair on jigs in 20 to 25 ft. around brush piles. Blue and channel catfish fair to good on shad guts and shrimp near riprap and rocky points. Largemouth bass fair on deep-diving crankbaits at 15 to 20 ft. near standing timber. Draper: July 13 — elevation normal and clear. Crappie fair to good on minnows and jigs off fishing docks. Channel catfish good on cut baits and stinkbaits. Bass fair on tandem spinnerbaits, plastic worms and shallow diving crankbaits. Report submitted by Tony Woodruff, game warden stationed in Cleveland County.

Overholser: July 13 — striped bass hybrids good on minnows and crankbaits. Channel catfish good on doughbait and chicken liver all around the lake. Report submitted by Ron Comer, game warden stationed in Canadian County.

Thunderbird: July 13 — elevation normal and clear. Crappie good on small jigs and minnows at 6 to 8 ft. on structure. Catfish good on stinkbait and cut baits off points and drop-offs. Bass fair on tandem spinnerbaits, topwater baits and medium-diving crankbaits in coves and structure. Saugeye good on medium-diving crankbaits, earthworms and sassy shad off points and drop offs at 5 to 10 ft. early and late day. Wes Watkins: July 12 — elevation 11⁄2 ft. below normal, water 85 to 91 and clear. Largemouth bass fair on assorted soft plastic baits around tree stumps and on spinnerbaits. White bass good trolling deep-diving crankbaits around the dam, along the north shoreline and roadbed areas. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around the dam area and deep in timbered areas on the west side. Catfish fair on chicken liver, worms, bait shrimp, fresh cut bait and assorted stinkbait. Wes Watkins: July 13 — elevation 1⁄2 ft. below normal. Largemouth bass fair in evenings. White bass good trolling. Crappie fair near old railroad structure. Report submitted by Mike France, game warden stationed in Pottawatomie County.

NORTHEAST

Bell Cow: July 12 — elevation below normal, water clear. Channel catfish good on chicken liver and doughbait. Crappie good on minnows. Report submitted by Gary Emmons, game warden stationed in Lincoln County.

Birch: July 13 — elevation normal, water 89 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass fair on soft plastic lures Carolina-rigged at 8 to 15 ft. and on buzzbaits early and late. Striped bass hybrids good on crankbaits trolling mid-lake humps and on live shad at 15 to 20 ft. Channel catfish fair on chicken liver, and worms at 4 to 12 ft. near main creek channels. Crappie excellent on minnows and jigs at 12 to 15 ft. around brush and at night with lights. Report submitted by Spencer Grace, game warden stationed in Osage County.

Copan: July 13 — elevation normal and murky. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 8 to 10 ft. near structure. Blue catfish slow on chicken liver below the dam. Report submitted by Joe Alexander, game warden stationed in Washington County.

Greenleaf: July 14 — elevation normal, water clear. Largemouth bass good on spinnerbaits and crankbaits along creek channels, riprap and grass beds. Catfish good on cut bait on bottom. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around fishing docks and brush piles. Report submitted by Lark Wilson, game warden stationed in Muskogee County.

Lower Illinois: July 9 — elevation normal, water 58 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass good on topwater lures all along the river. White bass good on jigs at 1 to 2 ft. all along the river. Striped bass good on live bait at 1 to 2 ft. below Gore Landing. Channel catfish good on cut bait on bottom all along the river. Crappie fair on jigs at 1 to 2 ft. all along the river. Trout excellent on flies on the surface, rooster tails at 1 to 2 ft. and on power bait on bottom above Gore Landing. Report submitted by D. Tracy, Town of Gore.

Oologah: July 13 — elevation 1 ft. above normal, water in the lower 80 degrees and murky. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 15 ft. around brush piles. White bass fair trolling shad colored crankbaits from the surface to 15 ft around main lake points. Blue catfish fair on shad below the dam. Sooner: July 14 — white bass fair on live shad and slabs in the lake and near the intake by the dam. Striped bass hybrids fair on live shad and slabs in the lake. Channel catfish being caught on cut bait and live bait near the intake by the dam. Report submitted by Doug Gottschalk, game warden stationed in Noble County.

Tenkiller: July 13 — elevation below normal, water 89 to 91 and clear. Largemouth bass good in the early mornings on spinnerbaits, topwater lures and plastic worms. Catfish fair on stinkbaits at 20 ft. around windy points. Sunfish good on night crawlers in the back of coves or around docks. Report by Monte Brooks Cookson Village Resort.

SOUTHEAST

Arbuckle: July 14 — elevation 1 ft. above normal, water 92 degrees and bad green algae stain. Crappie hitting on jigs and minnows around brush piles and docks. White bass being caught on jigging spoon, some topwater action early morning. Bass being caught deep on Carolina-rigs, jig and spoon and some topwater early. Channel catfish at 15 to 19 ft. on prepared baits. Sunfish good using earthworms and fly rod poppers. Report submitted by Jack Melton.

Blue River: July 14 — elevation normal, water 80 degrees and clear. Smallmouth bass fair on minnows and flies. Channel catfish fair on liver and worms. Report submitted by Charles Baker, technician at the Blue River Public Fishing and Hunting Area.

Broken Bow: July 12 — elevation dropping, water clear. Spotted bass fair on topwater lures where schooling and on 10 inch motor oil colored worms Carolina and Texas rigged, early and late. Crappie good around structure, all day. Report submitted by Dru Polk, game warden stationed in McCurtain County.

Eufaula: July 12 — elevation 1⁄2 ft. below normal, water clear. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits and plastic baits off points. White bass good on slab spoons surfacing on the flats early and late. Blue catfish fair on shad drifting the flats. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 8 to 20 ft. under bridges and around standing timber. Hugo: July 13 — elevation normal, water 81 degrees. Blue catfish good on cut shad below the dam. Report submitted by Jay Harvey, game warden stationed in Choctaw and Bryan counties.

Konawa: July 14 — elevation normal, water 94 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass good on topwater lures and plastic worms at 5 to 8 ft. along road beds and weed beds. White bass fair on jigs at 15 ft. in the discharge canal. Channel catfish good on chicken liver and stinkbait at 10 to 12 ft. along the points. Lower Mountain Fork River: July 13 — fishing in zone 2 pretty good very early on the morning otherwise slow. Spillway creek has many new holes to fish. Report submitted by Sid and Peggy of beaversbendflyshop.com.

McGee Creek: July 13 — elevation 9 inches above normal, water 86 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass fair to good on soft plastic lures at 3 to 10 ft. and on topwater baits early and late for schooling fish. Crappie good on minnows and jigs around cedar brush. Channel catfish fair on cut bait along riprap. Report submitted by Larry Luman, game warden stationed in Atoka County.

Murray: July 13 — water 84 degrees and clear. Largemouth and smallmouth bass good on various baits early, late and after dark. White bass good on topwater lures and trolling early and late; fish are schooling. Channel catfish good on chicken liver, stinkbait and worms. Crappie slow around brush piles. Pine Creek: July 13 — elevation normal and clear. Bass good on spinnerbaits slow rolled around structure and flooded timber. Crappie fair around flooded tops and timber on minnows. Catfish great on night crawlers. Report submitted by Mark Hannah, game warden stationed in McCurtain County.

Robert S. Kerr: July 13 — elevation normal, water 87 degrees and murky. Crappie good on minnows and small jigs around structure and brush piles at 8 to 12 ft. Largemouth bass fair on spinnerbaits and rubber worms and other soft baits at 2 to 5 ft. along the grass beds. Catfish fair on fresh shad, cut bait and punchbait at 3 to 9 ft. along the old creek channels. Report submitted by Leland Sockey, game warden stationed in Haskell County.

Sardis Lake: July 13 — bass good off of points and around creek channels on spinnerbaits and plugs also good on watermelon lizards. Crappie excellent on pink grubs or green and black around cover and on live minnows off of Jack Fork Bridge, half bridge and tower. Flathead catfish fair on juglines or trotlines with shad, sunfish or goldfish. Blue and channel catfish excellent on juglines and trotlines with cut bait, shrimp or shad. White bass excellent trolling around islands and east side lake by tower and excellent when found surfacing on lake. Walleye fair trolling around islands on rattletraps. Texoma: July 13 — elevation normal, water 86 degrees and clear. Largemouth and smallmouth bass good on topwater lures and spinnerbaits around the points. Striped and white bass good on topwater lures and live bait in most areas of the lake. Channel and blue catfish fair to good from the Hwy. 70 Bridge south. Crappie fair around fish attractors. Sunfish good around the fishing docks and fish attractors. Paddlefish good below the dam. Report submitted by Danny Clubb, game warden stationed in Bryan County.

Wister: July 13 — elevation 1⁄2 ft. below normal and murky. Largemouth bass fair on spinnerbaits and topwater lures early and late. Crappie fair on pink spinnerbaits, pink jigs and minnows. Channel and blue catfish fair on juglines with cut shad and liver. Flathead catfish fair on live sunfish and night crawlers.
