Freshman midfielder Kimberly MacKenzie boomed in a 30-yard shot off a free kick in the 62nd minute as East Central University overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat St. Mary’s (Texas) 2-1 Sunday in a women’s college soccer match at Lady Tiger Field.
MacKenzie’s shot sailed over the goalkeeper’s head and into the upper-left corner of the net as ECU won its second straight and evened its season record at 2-2.
Another Lady Tiger freshman, Laura McNab, evened up the contest in the 54th minute when she scored off a penalty kick.
The Rattlers, who fell to 0-3 with the loss, took the early 1-0 advantage as Carolina Hernandez scored off a header via Amanda McMullan cross in the 13th minute of the game.
Kelly Davis, who played the entire second half in goal, was credited with the win as she allowed no goals and saved three shots. Christie Sarginson started the match in goal as she surrendered the lone goal and was also credited with three saves.
ECU was fresh off a 4-1 win at the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha on Friday.
The next action for the Lady Tigers will be a two-game road trip to Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva on Friday at 7 p.m. and to Friends University in Wichita, Kan., on Saturday at 7 p.m.
