(AP) — Here are the conditions at Oklahoma lakes as reported Wednesday, Sept. 24, by the state Department of Wildlife Conservation and lake rangers.
CENTRAL
Arcadia: Elevation normal, water 75 to 80 degrees. Largemouth bass fair to good on punchbaits at 5 ft. at north-central point in the evening. Channel catfish good to excellent on chicken liver on bottom at north-central point in the evening. Crappie excellent on minnows at 5 to 7 ft. in brush piles by the dam in the morning. Hefner: White bass good on small jigs in the mouth of the river. Report submitted by Blake Pearson, game warden stationed in Kingfisher County.
Overholser: Crappie good at the dock. Report submitted by Blake Pearson, game warden stationed in Kingfisher County.
Thunderbird: Elevation normal, water clear. White bass good trolling inline spinnerbaits, medium-diving crankbaits and sassy shad around points and humps. Saugeye good on sassy shad, jigs and medium-diving crankbaits at 7 to 10 ft. off points. Report submitted by Tony Woodruff, game warden stationed in Cleveland County.
NORTHEAST
Bell Cow: Elevation below normal, water clear. Bass fair on plastics. Channel catfish good on doughbaits. Crappie fair to good on minnows and jigs. Report submitted by Gary Emmons, game warden stationed in Lincoln County.
Copan Lake: Elevation 2 ft. above normal, water murky. Crappie fair on minnow and jigs at 10 to 14 ft. near submerged structure. Channel catfish good on rod and reel, juglines with shad, stinkbait and worms. Flathead and channel catfish fair below the dam on fresh cut bait, live shad and worms. Chandler: Elevation below normal, water clear. Bass fair on plastics. Channel catfish and crappie slow. Report submitted by Gary Emmons, game warden stationed in Lincoln County.
Eucha: Elevation slightly above normal, water 72 degrees and dingy. Crappie fair on jigs and minnows at 10 to 12 ft. around brush and structure. Largemouth fair on plastic baits at night. Report submitted by Dwight Moore, City of Tulsa Fisheries.
Fort Gibson: Elevation 23⁄4 ft. above normal, water 76 degrees and murky. Catfish being caught on shad at the mouth of Pryor Creek and below the low water dam anchored along the channel. White bass are moving into the channels and into shallower water since the water temperatures have dropped. Catfish are being caught on worms and cut baits anywhere creeks are running into the lake. Largemouth bass are working the shallows and are still being caught on crankbaits and worms. Crappie are chasing minnows in the shallow brush and bridge heads all over the lake; remember crappie have a 10 inch minimum on Fort Gibson Lake. Try using small jigs tipped with a small minnow for some great fall action. Also trolling slow with several rods tipped with small chartreuse and black body jigs over shallow brush and structure works real good. Grand: Upper end: Elevation above normal, water 72 degrees and murky. Largemouth bass fair to good on black angel jigs and 11 to 12 inch pumpkin colored worms. Smallmouth bass good on small spinnerbaits in the rivers. White bass fair to good on Texas slabs and small spinnerbaits around bridges, points and flats. Catfish good on secret seven dip bait, worms, goldfish, sunfish and shad at 35 to 40 ft. Crappie fair to good on grandpas jigs in red/white, red/black and black/chartreuse and minnows at 15 ft. around docks and brush piles. Report submitted by Grand Lake Sports Center.
Greenleaf: Elevation normal, water 75 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass good on crankbaits, plastic worms and spinnerbaits along the shoreline and grass beds. Catfish good on stinkbaits and cut baits on bottom. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at fishing dock and brush structures. Report submitted by Lark Wilson, game warden stationed in Muskogee County.
Lower Illinois: Elevation above normal, water 70 degrees and murky. Channel catfish fair on cut baits in deep holes all along the river. Blue and flathead catfish excellent on cut baits on bottom in the Arkansas River. All fishing reported very slow. Trout stocking stopped due to water temperatures. Oologah: Elevation 4 ft. above normal and rising slowly, water 80 degrees and murky. Blue catfish good on juglines and trotlines with shad on the north end of the lake. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 10 to 15 ft. around brush piles. Blue and channel catfish fair on shad below the dam. White bass and crappie fair on jigs below the dam. Sooner: White bass and striped bass hybrids good on topwater lures on the north side of the lake. Catfish good on cut baits and live baits around points. Report submitted by Doug Gottschalk, game warden stationed in Noble County.
Webbers Falls: Elevation 2 ft. above normal, water 75 degrees and murky. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits and stinkbaits in riprap and creek channels. Catfish good on cut baits on bottom. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs in brush structure and under bridges. Report submitted by Lark Wilson, game warden stationed in Muskogee County.
NORTHWEST
Canton: Elevation 1 ft. above normal. White bass and striped bass hybrids excellent drifting shad and trolling crankbaits near drop offs. Walleye fair drifting night crawlers near submerged islands. Channel catfish good on shad and stinkbaits on the upper end of lake. Report submitted by Mark Walker, game warden stationed in Blaine County.
SOUTHEAST
Arbuckle: Elevation 21⁄3 ft. below normal, water 77 degrees and stained. Crappie fair around brush piles. White bass are feeding at the surface and on spoons at 21 to 25 ft. Bass slow to fair on topwater lures, drop-shot and crankbaits in the grass. Channel catfish good over baited holes. Report submitted by Jack Melton.
Blue River: Elevation normal, water 70 degrees and clear. Smallmouth bass fair on crawfish imitating lures and plastic grubs. Spotted bass good on inline spinnerbaits and soft plastics. Channel catfish good on stinkbait and live bait. Report submitted by Matt Gamble, biologist at the Blue River Public Fishing and Hunting Area.
Broken Bow: Largemouth and smallmouth bass fair on 10 to 12 inch worms, Texas or Carolina-rigged from daylight to evening at mouths of points and mouths of creeks. Catfish fair on juglines and trotlines with cut bait. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs around structure and standing timber. Report submitted by Dru Polk, game warden stationed in McCurtain County.
Eufaula: Elevation normal, water clear. Largemouth bass good on topwater lures early morning in rocky areas and on crankbaits the rest of the day in rocky areas. White bass slow. Blue catfish fair on fresh shad drifting the shallow flats. Crappie fair on minnows and jigs at 6 to 18 ft. in standing timber. Hugo: Elevation 4 ft. above normal with one flood gate open, water 81 degrees. Catfish fair on cut baits and live sunfish. Blue catfish good on grasshoppers and worms below the dam. Crappie fair on minnows. Report submitted by Jay Harvey, game warden stationed in Choctaw and Bryan Counties.
Konawa: Elevation normal, water 81 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass good on plastic worms and topwater lures at 4 to 8 ft. in weed beds. Channel catfish fair on chicken liver at 8 to 10 ft. around points. Report submitted by Daryl Howser, game warden stationed in Seminole County.
McGee Creek: Elevation 1 ft. above normal, water 79 degrees and clear. Largemouth bass fair on plastic craws and crawfish colored crankbaits at 6 to 18 ft. along rocky points and on topwater lures early and late. Report submitted by Larry Luman, game warden stationed in Atoka County.
Murray: Elevation normal, water clear. All fishing is starting to pick up due to cooler temperatures. Largemouth and smallmouth bass being caught. White bass fair trolling crankbaits early and late when schooling topwater. Channel catfish fair on chicken liver, stinkbaits and worms. Crappie slow on minnows and jigs at 15 ft. around brush piles. Robert S Kerr: Elevation above normal, water 77 degrees and murky. Largemouth bass fair on plastic baits 3 to 6 ft. over weedy and stumpy areas and on crankbaits around rock and riprap areas. Crappie slow on minnows 8 ft. in the old creek channels. White bass slow on crankbaits 8 ft. in the Applegate Cove area. Blue catfish good on fresh cut shad 5 to 15 ft. fishing the edge of the current coming down the channel. Report submitted by Rick Olzawski, game warden stationed in Haskell County.
Sardis: Bass fair to good on plastics around points and creek channels and on spinnerbaits around cover. Crappie good off of Jack Fork Bridge with minnows and off of tower on live minnows and on pink grubs around brush piles. Flathead catfish slow on juglines or trotlines with live bait. Blue and channel catfish good on juglines and trotlines with cutbait or shrimp. White bass good trolling around islands and on plugs and when found surfacing. Walleye fair on plugs trolling. Texoma: Elevation normal, water 79 degrees and clear. Largemouth and smallmouth bass fair to good in the creek channels. Striped and white bass fair to good in east and west Burns Run. Channel and blue catfish fair to good above the Hwy. 70 Bridge. Crappie fair to good in Widow Moore and Kansas Creeks. Sunfish good around the fishing docks. Wister: Elevation 8 ft. above normal, water murky. Largemouth bass good on 10 to 12 inch crawfish colored worms. Crappie good on small spinnerbaits and jigs.
