Tuttle climbs to top spot in 3A; big Week 10 games in Class 5A

JEFF LATZKE AP Sports Writer

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Tuttle has spent all season climbing in the Class 3A rankings and has finally reached the top with just one week to go before the Oklahoma high school football playoffs.

After starting the season ranked fourth, Tuttle moved up one spot each of the first two weeks of the season before staying locked in the No. 2 position.

In The Associated Press' next-to-last rankings of the season released Monday, the undefeated Tigers (9-0) moved into a tie for the No. 1 ranking with defending state champion Cascia Hall (8-0).

Tuttle moved up after a 31-0 shutout of Anadarko, while Cascia Hall edged then-No. 5 Sequoyah Claremore 28-21.

The rest of the state's top-ranked teams remained the same for the fifth straight week. They are: Jenks in Class 6A, Bishop Kelley in 5A, Glenpool in 4A, Davis in 2A, Tonkawa in Class A, Garber in Class B and Shattuck in Class C.

Shattuck earned its spot in the history books last week with a 40-14 win against Goodwell, breaking Morrison's record of 90 straight victories. The Indians close out the regular season at Buffalo before starting the postseason in hopes of matching Morrison's mark of seven straight state championships.

Garber defended its top ranking in another marquee eight-man game, blowing out then-No. 2 Canton 38-6 in a rematch of last season's Class B state title game. Undefeated Ryan moved past Canton into the No. 2 spot this week.

Two other No. 1 teams will face final challenges from ranked opponents before the playoffs this week. Glenpool hosts No. 4 Star Spencer in Class 4A while Davis visits No. 5 Plainview in 2A.

There are also a pair of games matching ranked opponents in classes 6A and 5A. Among the state's largest schools, No. 3 Broken Arrow hosts No. 6 Bartlesville and No. 7 Mustang visits No. 4 Southmoore.

Another intriguing game in 5A will take place in McAlester where the seventh-ranked Buffaloes will host rival Ada, which is sitting at No. 11.

No. 2 El Reno, one of three undefeated teams leading Class 5A, concludes its regular season by hosting No. 10 Duncan while No. 6 Booker T. Washington tries to finish on a positive note at home against No. 8 Bixby.

The Hornets, the defending state champions, forfeited two games and coach Antwain Jimmerson was suspended last week because the team used ineligible players.
