NOTEWORTHY: Tiffany Postoak scored 17 points and had six steals in her first game in a Tupelo uniform as the Lady Tigers routed Wapanucka in their season opener. Tupelo used a tenacious defense and a fast-paced offense to build a 29-11 halftime lead and placed three players — Postoak, Shanna Davidson (14) and Megan Bray (10) — in double figures. The Lady Tigers had 16 steals, including Postoak’s six and five from Davidson, and committed just five turnovers.

NOTEWORTHY: Mindy Holland scored 16 points and Savanna Burwell added 13 as Stonewall opened the season with a win at home. The Lady Longhorns trailed 16-12 after one quarter but took the lead for good early in the second period and led by as many as 14 points in the third before Earlsboro’s pressure forced some turnovers and allowed the visitors to climb back into the game. Bradianne Daniel had six rebounds and four steals to go with nine points, and point guard Brettney Brady dished out eight assists in the victory.

NOTEWORTHY: Stonewall bolted to leads of 16-5 and 34-17 before cruising to its season-opening victory. David Hamilton led the Longhorns with 19 poiints, includiing a trio of 3-pointers, while Josh Scribner scored 14 — 12 coming in the big first-half SHS run.

NOTEWORTHY: Stetson Taylor drained his third 3-pointer of the game with 1:15 to play to break a 38-38 tie and ignite a 6-0 run as Wapanucka beat Tupelo. With the game tied, the Tigers turned the ball over, and Taylor took advantage of the mistake to give the hosts the lead for good. Tupelo turned the ball over again on its next possession, and Wapanucka hit its free throws down the stretch. Omar Manriquez had 11 points and Taylor added nine in the win, while Jake Sanders had nine points, four rebounds and five assists, Tyler Griffin had six points and nine boards, and Tanner Davis added eight points and six rebounds for the Tigers.
