Elzie Mellor
Elzie Mellor, of McAlester, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, in McAlester.
Private family services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.
Born Sept. 30, 1918, in Blue, she was the daughter of William Henry and Sibbie Alice (Cooper) Ussery. She married George X. Mellor on July 1, 1933, in McAlester.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Second Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include one son, George “Butch” Mellor Jr., of McAlester; daughter, Alice Marie Shirley, Deming, N.M.; grandchildren, Kim Grant, Tracey Hobbs and husband, Steve, Deming, N.M., George David Shirley, Webster, S.D., Billy Mellor, of McAlester, and Megan Ervin, of Wilburton.
Also, great-grandchildren, Robbie Grant and wife, Laura, Mandi Way, Kenna Barnes and husband, Justin, and Jacob Hobbs, all of Las Cruces, N.M., Kirby Grant, Los Lunas, N.M., and Lauren Mellor, Dallas.
And, great-great-grandchildren, Chantelle, Shaunia and Ethan Grant, Makenzie Barnes, Gavin Way, Las Cruces, N.M., and Aleigha Grant, Los Lunas, N.M., and one sister, Lucille Turnipseed, of McAlester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Sibbie Alice Ussery; her husband, George Mellor, in 1993; granddaughter, Jodi Mellor; brothers, Bill Ussery, Marvin Parsons and Leonard Parsons, and sister, Odie Hulsey.
