Fortnightly club discuss Boren letter

From submitted reports

The Literary Department of Fortnightly met at the home of Zoe Duran on Oct. 6. Fifteen members were present.

Ann Harden led the discussion of “A Letter to America,” by David Boren.

Boren, a Rhodes Scholar, was the longest serving Chairman of the U.S. Intelligence Committee. He was a former U.S. Senator and Governor of Oklahoma and has served as President of the University of Oklahoma for the past 13 years.

Boren believes that America is in trouble because its people are losing faith in the country’s future. What the country needs, Boren asserts, are major reforms to restore the ability of our political system to act responsibly.

He also maintains that there should be bipartisan cooperation on behalf of national interests in the U.S. to replace destructive partisanship. We must stop the destruction of the middle class.
