Local bands plan Saturday concert in Hartshorne

By James Beaty
Senior Editor

“An Evening of Red Dirt and Rock” concert, featuring two area bands, as well as a solo artist, is set for the Liberty Theatre in downtown Hartshorne on Saturday.

RosCo and the Heads are headliners for the concert, which also features Juniper Point and Hartshorne’s Red Dirt troubadour, Lonnie Lay.

McAlester Radio DJ John Peters, who hosts the Boogie Down Blues Show on Rock 105 FM, will emcee the event.

“Come out and support local live music; a splendid evening is indeed in store for all,” said Ross “RosCo” Chronister.

RosCo and the Heads first formed in 1992 and has seen a number of personnel changes over the years, finally settling on the current lineup in 2004. The band consists of Chronister on guitar and vocals, Steve Ford on bass and backing vocals and Kenny Puma on drums.

The group’s issued four compact discs and has a fifth one set for release next summer. Playing both original and classic rock music, RosCo and the Heads have performed numerous live shows in the Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas area.

Juniper Point, which has members from the McAlester and Checotah area, recently performed at the Third Annual Sardis Lake Outback Festival.

The band includes well-known guitarist Aaron Lalli, along with Floyd Speir on drums, bassist Thomas Little and Robert Gene Smith on vocals and guitar.

Lay, an acoustic guitarist and vocalist, hopes to release his debut CD next year as part of a duo with Chronister called Zero Radius and Ice Cream Boy.

The concert is being billed as a show for all ages. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door on Saturday night.

The Liberty Theatre is at 826 Pennsylvania Avenue in downtown Hartshorne.
