Mystery surrounds woman found hurt in ditch

By James Beaty
Senior Editor

Krebs police responded to a call reporting a woman lying bloodied and unconscious in a ditch by the side of the road on Friday.

“At approximately 6:45 a.m., a call was received and officers were dispatched to Electric Avenue and Cleveland, by the Krebs baseball field,” said Krebs Police Chief Dennis Cook.

When Krebs police patrolman Ed Long answered the call, he found that the lady who had phoned in the report had remained at the site to help the woman, who was now conscious and sitting on the tailgate of the pickup driven by the Good Samaritan.

The woman who had been in the ditch had several injuries, according to Cook.

“She had facial wounds and arm injuries,” Cook said. “She had scrapes and abrasions on her face, and the blood was dried on her face.”

The woman gave police no explanation as to how she wound up in the ditch.

“She stated that she woke up there,” Cook said.

The woman said she didn’t remember how she got to the site.

Cook said she told police she had been going to see a relative who worked at a store in Krebs.

She also told police that she occasionally had seizures.

Long called an ambulance which transported the woman to the McAlester Regional Health Center. Cook said he understood that she was treated at the hospital and then was later released.

Police have found no evidence of foul play at this point, according to Cook, but he said the matter is still under investigation and nothing has been ruled out.
