‘Pittman’ on tap at library meeting

Dr. Trisha Yarbrough of East Central University in Ada will open Thursday’s Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma program on “The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman” by Ernest Gaines at McAlester Public Library

“Pittman” depicts the recollections of an African-American woman who has experienced a century of life from the Civil War to the Civil Rights movement.

Thursday’s program on Gaines’ book is the final fall session of Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma.

Refreshments and a door prize will be provided at the 6 p.m. event in the Whiteacre Room.

Yarbrough, who received her Bachelor’s degree at Oklahoma Baptist University and her M.A. and Ph.D. at Arizona State University, has taught literature and composition for 20 years.

She is involved in several professional literary organizations and is a national council member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society.

Books, services and other materials for this series of programs are provided by Let’s Talk About It, Oklahoma, a project of the Oklahoma Humanities Council with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Funding for the series was provided by a grant from the Inasmuch Foundation.
